AllApps

Magic Mouse tap-to-click apps.

Mando is the pick: tap to click with right click and drag, it keeps working after your Mac sleeps, updates itself, and is a one-time purchase. BetterTouchTool has the longest track record but you build tap to click yourself. TappitX offers the most gestures for the least money, and MagicMouseTap is the cheapest that works. macOS itself has no Magic Mouse tap to click, so every option here is a direct download.

The filter. Every app here adds a one-finger tap-to-click to the Apple Magic Mouse on a Mac, and every one is a single purchase. None is on the Mac App Store, because the touch data they read is off-limits to sandboxed apps. See every app under this rule ›

Verdict
The best-rounded tap-to-click app here: it re-arms itself whenever the Mac wakes or the mouse reconnects, which is the usual way these apps quietly stop working, and it installs its own updates. Every gesture has its own switch, and it costs a fraction of BetterTouchTool.
Best for
Someone who wants tap to click set up once and never thought about again, and would use a battery readout for their other Apple peripherals.
The catch
It is an early release with fewer gesture types than TappitX or TapToClick Pro, and there is no free trial of its own; the trial on offer is for MagicMouseTap, which shares its tap engine.

$15 onceUpdated Oct 7, 2026
Verdict
The longest track record in a category where apps break on macOS updates: maintained for well over a decade, with fixes shipped within days, and tap to click is one of thousands of things it can do.
Best for
Someone who will also use it to customise their trackpad, keyboard or menu bar, not only the mouse.
The catch
Tap to click is not a switch you flip. You assemble it from tap triggers yourself, tap-to-drag takes extra work, and forum users report a slight delay because a tap only fires when the finger lifts.

TappitX

TappitX

$2.99 once
Verdict
The most tap gestures for the least money: click, right click by zone or by pressing harder, drag, and middle click, all in a small app that does nothing else.
Best for
Someone who wants a dedicated tap-to-click app with more gestures than the basics and no setup.
The catch
It is brand new and anonymous: the changelog has a single undated release and the site names no developer, so there is no track record to judge how it will handle the next macOS update.

One-time purchase
Verdict
The one to pick if you want the mouse surface to do more than click: the Pro tier maps holds, swipes and pinches to shortcuts and actions, on top of tap, right-click zone, middle click and drag.
Best for
Someone who wants to trigger keyboard shortcuts or Shortcuts from gestures on the Magic Mouse itself.
The catch
The price is not on the website at all, only at checkout, and each licence covers a fixed number of Macs, so check both before the trial runs out.

MagicMouseTap

$0.99 onceUpdated Sep 14, 2026
Verdict
The cheapest way to get tap to click working: start it and taps click, with right click and drag, and nothing to configure.
Best for
Someone who wants tap to click for the least possible money and does not mind toggling it after sleep.
The catch
By its own developer's account it can stop responding after the Mac sleeps until you switch it off and on, gestures cannot be turned off one at a time, and it never updates itself.

Who should skip this entirely.

Skip all of these if accidental clicks would cost you more than physical ones save. You rest your fingers on a mouse to move it, so tap to click on a mouse misfires more than on a trackpad, and every app here is a workaround Apple does not support. If you want tapping for comfort or quiet, a Magic Trackpad does it natively and will never break on an update. And if all you need is a middle click, you want MiddleClick or WheelClick instead.

Questions.

Does macOS have tap to click for the Magic Mouse? No. System Settings › Mouse offers secondary click, Smart Zoom and swipe gestures for the Magic Mouse, but tap to click is a Magic Trackpad setting only.
Why is none of these in the Mac App Store?Reading touches on the Magic Mouse surface needs a private Apple framework that only works outside the App Store sandbox. That is also why a macOS update can break these apps until the developer ships a fix, and why a long maintenance record matters here more than usual.
Is there a free one?Only open-source hobby projects such as MagicTap, MouseToucher and MagicMouseAgent. They work, but they have a handful of contributors, usually have to be built or approved past macOS security prompts, and nobody is obliged to fix them. Every app on this list has a free trial, or a free trial of its sibling, instead.
What about SteerMouse, Mac Mouse Fix or Magic Utilities?None of them adds tap to click on a Mac. SteerMouse's developer says it does not support the Magic Mouse, Mac Mouse Fix says it has no effect on one, and Magic Utilities is Windows software for using Apple's mouse on a PC. MagicPrefs, the old favourite, has not run since macOS Catalina.
