About AllApps.
A directory of apps for phone, computer and the web, with hand-written lists of the best in each category laid over the top.
What this is.
Most app directories are search results with an affiliate link attached, and most “best app” articles are written by someone who has not opened the app. AllApps is an attempt at the opposite: a catalogue built from the stores’ own data, and a small number of lists where somebody has actually read the reviews and written down what is wrong with each pick.
The two are deliberately different things, and the site says which is which. The directory is indexed: it tells you what an app costs, what it runs on and when it was last updated, all of it pulled from a data feed rather than typed. A list is editorial: four to six apps, chosen against one hard rule, each with the catch printed where there is one.
Who publishes it.
AllApps is published by Pilas Studios, which also makes apps of its own. When one of those apps appears anywhere on this site it carries a visible disclosure on the entry itself — not a footnote, not a line in the footer — and it is held to the same rule as everything else on the page. We do not go easier on our own.
How it is paid for.
Out of Pilas Studios’s own pocket. There are no ads, no affiliate links, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion. Store links go straight to the store with nothing appended. Nobody on a list has paid to be there or can pay to be there, and if that ever changes it will be written here before it happens anywhere else.
Corrections.
If a list is wrong, or an app has changed in a way the page has not caught up with, tell us and we will fix it. Prices and update dates re-check themselves nightly against the store; the written parts do not, which is exactly where mistakes survive. Every list carries the date its copy was last reviewed so you can see how stale it is.
Getting an app listed.
Listing is free and always will be. Today the directory is built automatically from public store data, so most apps are already here; if yours is not, or its entry is wrong, write to us. We are building a way for developers to submit and maintain their own entries directly — when it lands it will be held to the same rules as everything else, and a submission will never be a way onto a list.
