Topographic Maps & Trails

Verdict

This is a topo map app built around offline downloads, and most reviewers say it works well for that and uses little battery. But a chunk of users describe the offline download process itself as clunky, requiring manual panning and zooming instead of a simple region select, and a few report inaccurate distance tracking.

Best for

Hikers who want USGS topo and satellite maps saved to their phone for logging trails, and don't need precise mileage or GPS distance accuracy.

Dealbreaker

Downloading maps for offline use isn't a simple 'draw a box and download' - several reviewers describe it as a tedious pan-and-zoom process, and some say offline downloads didn't work for them at all.
